A gathering in prayer for global peace

On March 17, the FCJ Retreat and Conference Centre hosted an Iftar gathering, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds in a shared spirit of unity, prayer, and reflection.

More than 60 attendees participated in this special evening, representing various Muslim organizations, including the Muslim Council of Calgary, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), and the Canadian Indian Muslim Association (CIMA). The gathering also welcomed representatives from different Christian churches and denominations, members of the Calgary Interfaith Council (CIC), and several esteemed community leaders. Together, these individuals embraced the essence of interfaith dialogue and cooperation, highlighting the power of shared values in building a more harmonious society.

This has been spearheaded by FCJ Retreat and Conference Associate Director Rita Khanchat. In her speech she mentioned that the FCJ Centre believes that what unites us is greater than what divides us. We celebrate values that honour life, dreams of a brighter future for future generations and efforts to ensure justice for everyone.  Why are we doing Iftar? We provide a welcoming space that promotes understanding, collaboration, and mutual respect among people of different faiths, helping to build a more peaceful and harmonious world.

During the event, a guided tour of the FCJ Centre was conducted, showing the guests an understanding of the facilities and the welcoming space that the FCJ Centre provides. Along with the tour, the FCJ Centre shared insights into its rich history, services offered, and the Centre’s ongoing commitment to fostering community engagement and interfaith dialogue.

The evening was a testament to the power of interfaith engagement, reminding all that despite differences in beliefs and traditions, the desire for peace and unity remains universal. Through prayer, dialogue, and shared experiences, the gathering reinforced the significance of coming together in faith and friendship.

As we continue our journeys through Ramadan and Lent, may the spirit of this gathering inspire us all to work towards a world filled with compassion, understanding, and peace.#
